Kamaole Beach Park I
Kamaole Beach Park I is the first of three adjacent beaches collectively known as the Kamaole Beach Parks (referred to colloquially as Kam I, Kam II, and Kam III). Parking and Access
- Kam I has its own dedicated parking lot by the lifeguard tower, at South Kihei Road and Alanui Ke’ali’i Rd. If there are no spots available in this lot, try the gravel parking lot on the other side of South Kihei Road at Alanui Ke’ali’i Rd.
Facilities and Amenities
- The beach park provides various amenities, including lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and picnic facilities, making it a convenient spot for a family beach day.
What to Bring
- Bring the whole family and everything you want for a full beach day! Auntie recommends snorkeling gear, floatation, umbrellas, beach chairs, and games. Rent a stand-up paddle board for even more exploration and fun.
Snorkeling and Surf
- Check the live webcam of Charley Young Beach, the north end of Kamaole I here.
- While the beach itself doesn’t have extensive coral formations for snorkeling, there are some rocky areas at the northern end of the beach where you can observe marine life, including colorful fish and sea turtles. Kam I is adjacent to Kam II and Kam III Beaches, which have better snorkeling opportunities.
- On calm mornings, stand-up paddle boarding is a great option at Kam I. The long stretch of beach makes for a beautiful paddle. Just be aware that the wind can pick up strongly and quickly from late morning through the day, so the earlier you go out the better.
- There can be some elevated surf with summer south swells. This will impede snorkeling but can sometimes make for fun boogie boarding. Just be sure to exercise plenty of caution, and if in doubt, don’t go out!
Environment and Seasonal Variation
- Kam I is calm and beautiful most mornings year round. It is common for the wind to become strong and gusty from the middle of the day, so this beach is best early.
- Responsible tourism practices, such as proper disposal of trash and the use of reef-safe sunscreen, can contribute to the long-term conservation of this stunning coastal environment on Maui.
- It’s important for visitors to respect the local rules and regulations, including not touching or damaging the coral, not collecting or harassing marine life, and not disturbing the natural habitat.
Remember to respect the natural beauty and environment of Kamaole Beach Park I by leaving no trace and following any posted rules and regulations. Whether you’re looking to snorkel, paddle, enjoy a sunset, or simply bask in the beauty of the ocean, Kam I provides a family-friendly and convenient escape on Maui.
