D.T. Fleming Beach is a beautiful and popular beach located on the northwest coast of Maui. It is named after D.T. Fleming, an engineer who worked on the construction of the Honolua Plantation in the early 1900s. The beach is well-known for its natural beauty, great waves for boogie boarding, and is also a picturesque spot for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking.
D.T. Fleming Beach is easily accessible from Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30), and just a 15-20 minute drive north from Auntie Snorkel Lahaina.
At Mile Marker 31, look for a small sign for DT Fleming Beach on the ocean side of the highway, next to a road leading down. Make a left onto this road.
Parking and Access
There is ample parking at the end of the road leading into the beach park. Access to the beach is just a short walk away.
Non-Hawaii residents will need to pay for parking here, and ranges from $25-$29 for the day. Your purchase here includes access to the paid lots at Ironwoods and Kapalua Bay. More information is at the Parklinq site.
Facilities and Amenities
Lifeguards are typically stationed at the beach, providing an added layer of safety for visitors.
The beach offers amenities such as restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and shaded areas. So, it’s a convenient spot for a day at the beach. Also, there are barbecue grills available for use.
What to Bring
Bring the whole family and everything you want for a full beach day! Auntie recommends boogie boards, umbrellas, beach chairs, snacks, and games.
Snorkeling and Surf
D.T. Fleming Beach is known for its fun waves, which are ideal for boogie boarding. The beach is one of the best places for these activities on Maui. The wave conditions can vary, but the beach is generally better suited for those with some experience in wave sports.
Check local resources for up-to-date surf information and ask the lifeguards on duty about conditions, as waves can become quite powerful here. If in doubt, don’t go out!
Snorkelers will likely want to head to other spots for better snorkeling conditions. Kapalua Bay, Mokule’ia Bay, and Honolua Bay are nearby gems!
