Directions and Distance from Auntie Snorkel

• Charley Young Beach is just a 5 minute drive north from Auntie Snorkel Kihei. It’s conveniently situated close to various accommodations, restaurants, and shops in the area.

Parking and Access

• Driving north on South Kihei Road, look for the Maui Vista sign on the right, and turn left onto Kai’au Place. Take an immediate right into the beach parking lot. Walk across the street and to the right to find Charley Young Beach down a ramp and a set of stairs.
• If this lot is full, try the parking lots on either side of South Kihei Road at Alanui Ke’ali’i Rd. There is a paved lot for Kamaole Beach I on the makai (ocean) side, and a gravel lot on the mauka (mountain) side. Charley Young Beach is simply the north end of Kamaole Beach I, so head to your right from the beach access.

Facilities and Amenities

• While Charley Young Beach is relatively low-key, it provides a few amenities such as a portable toilet, showers, and trash bins. 
• There are more amenities including a lifeguard station, restrooms, showers, and picnic tables a short walk south on Kamaole I.

What to Bring

• Bring the whole family and everything you want for a full beach day! Auntie recommends snorkeling gear, floatation, umbrellas, beach chairs, and games. Rent a stand-up paddle board for even more exploration and fun.

• While the beach isn’t as well-known for snorkeling as some other Maui locations, there are still opportunities to observe marine life, including fish and occasional sea turtles, especially near the rocky areas.
• On calm mornings, stand-up paddle boarding is a great option at Charley Young. The long stretch of beach to the south makes for a beautiful paddle. Just be aware that the wind can pick up strongly and quickly from late morning through the day, so the earlier you go out the better. 
• There can be some elevated surf with summer south swells. This will impede snorkeling but can sometimes make for fun boogie boarding. Just be sure to exercise plenty of caution, and if in doubt, don’t go out!
